Resurfacing of three Khayelitsha roads

The City of Cape Town’s Road Infrastructure Management Department is set to commence with the rehabilitation and resurfacing of sections of Bonga Drive, Japhta K Masemola Road and Pama Road, in District 7 in Khayelitsha.
The works are scheduled to commence in the coming week and will be implemented over a period of five weeks. Completion is expected by the end of March 2022, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather.
The works will be implemented from Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 16:00 and will entail the following:
The resurfacing and rehabilitation of approximately 550m of Pama Road, between Tabulele Street and the Bonga Drive intersection, including various patches between Mew Way and Tabulele Street.
The resurfacing of approximately 450m of Bonga Drive, between Njimba Avenue and Japhta K Masemola Road, and one patch in Bonga Drive opposite Chumisa Primary School.
The resurfacing of approximately 800m of Japhta K Masemola Road, between the Bonga Drive intersection and Oliver Tambo Community Hall, including the repair and replacement of various kerbs and demolishing and reinstatement of five catchpits.

This is to ensure that residents can keep on moving, and that goods and services can reach its destinations. Cape Town’s road network is one of our biggest assets and it is our responsibility to undertake regular and continuous maintenance to prolong the longevity of our roads. Thus, apart from doing this, the work planned along these roads in Khayelitsha will also improve the general safety of all road users. We are also going to reinstate and realign kerbs and channels where required, and will be marking the lanes in the entire section with retro-reflective road marking paint. This will improve safety and visibility,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
